What is an Outlook MCP server?

An Outlook MCP server exposes your Outlook.com, Hotmail, or Microsoft 365 mailbox as MCP tools an AI agent can call. MailMCP connects via IMAP/SMTP — compatible with both personal Outlook accounts and business Office 365 accounts.

Do I need a password or an App Password?

No. Microsoft has switched off password sign-in for IMAP and SMTP: neither your usual password nor an App Password works anymore. You connect with the "Sign in with Microsoft" button and approve access on Microsoft's own page — MailMCP never sees your password.

Is Claude Outlook connector better or is MailMCP?

Claude native Outlook connector is read-only with drafts. It cannot send, schedule, create folders or flag messages. MailMCP is a real Outlook MCP server exposing 15 tools including send, schedule, move, create_folder, flag — full email control.

Does it support shared mailboxes in Microsoft 365?

Not yet. The "Sign in with Microsoft" connection gives access to the mailbox of the account you sign in with, so shared mailboxes cannot be added for now. A dedicated mailbox with its own sign-in (for example a licensed support@ account) works normally. Contact us if you need shared mailboxes.

Microsoft does not ship an MCP server for Outlook. Claude.ai has a native Outlook connector, but it is read-only with draft creation. ChatGPT and Cursor have no Outlook integration at all.

Add your Outlook address to MailMCP
